John Arrowsmith
62 x 51 cm
Arrowsmith revised his map of South America completely after the results of the survey of the Beagle were published, adding far greater detail to the Southern parts of the continent as well as including insets of Patagonia together with the Straits of Magellan, the Falklands, the Port of San Carlos on the Island of Chiloe and the Galapagos. Arrowsmith acknowledges the sources of his new information on his cartouche as “original documents including the surveys of the officers of H.M. Ships Adventure and Beagle” and the map is actually dedicated to Robert Fitzroy, captain of the Beagle.
