Description:
Nicolaus Copernicus' heliocentric model of the solar system correctly showing the heavenly bodies, including the Earth, orbiting the Sun. This map also shows Jupiter’s four moons, first seen by Galileo Galilei in 1609 using his newly discovered telescope.

Copernicus was so fearful of being branded a heretic by Catholic authorities that he was only finally persuaded to publish his theory on his death bed.
