Description:
Highly interesting map of Colombia with its early borders in relation to Ecuador, Venezuela and Brazil. Although entitled Colombia, the map shows the borders between the newly formed Republic of New Granada in relation to Ecuador and Venezuela, both of whom had seceded from the old Spanish Viceroyalty. Panama, during this period, is still shown as part of the newly formed republic. Of particular interest is the dedication, to Colonel Wilson, Aid de Camp to Simon Bolivar. This was Hinton Bedford Wilson, an Irish officer and son of Bolivar's trusted friend, General Sir Robert Wilson. The younger Wilson was with Bolivar to his death. Original hand colour. [SAM3309]
