Description:
This famous image encapsulates the political and military situation at the start of the First World War. The British Bulldog, supported by the fierce French poodle, is biting the nose of the German dachshund, itself tethered to a mongrel, representing the different races of Austria-Hungary. Behind the canine protagonists we see a determined Tsar Nicolas II driving a steamroller, supported by cossacks, coming in to flatten the Austrian and German forces from the east. The descriptive text below the map explains the situation and summarizes the situation with the tragicomic note: "All this and more, may be seen depicted above. Search well and you may find many things. But not Peace. Peace has gone to the Dogs for the present..." Original printed colour. Framed. [EUR1416]
