This small map shows the area of activity of Antony Knivet, a fascinating individual. Sailing with Sir Thomas Cavendish during a buccaneering voyage, Knivet was marooned on an island in the Magellan Straights. He was captured by the Portuguese and made a slave in a plantation in Brazil. After several escape attemtps, including one which took him to Angola, Knivet was finally succesful and returned to England, where he wrote an account of his experiences, several of which were included in the most celebrated travel book of its time, Purchas's His Pilgrimes.
